Duo Duel FNCS 2026 Major 2 · Shaken Sanctuary

The Shaken Sanctuary duel: same drop, 509–154 — and the zones were not the excuse

Two duos dropped the same patch of Shaken Sanctuary for all 24 Grand Finals games — Elite EomzoӜ + elite josh 19ǃ in NAC, Fredoxie0452 + M8 MariusCOW in EU — and finished 509 points to 154. So the ELITE data desk went back to the replays and matched their zones game by game to answer the obvious objection: did the island just treat them differently? No. Here is the full autopsy.

The short version

Two duos ran the same drop for 24 combined games and finished 509 points to 154. It wasn't the loot, it wasn't the contest, and — we checked, zone by zone — it wasn't the circles: on 6 matched zone looks with bearings within 13°, Eomzo + Josh averaged 10.0 placement to Fredoxie + Marius's 21.3 on the deep pulls, and when both duos played a look the same way, they finished exactly 15th apiece. The gap is a habit: Eomzo + Josh's leave time tracks the zone at r = −0.73 and their exits miss the pull bearing by 19.9° on average. Fredoxie + Marius track at −0.54, miss by 39.3°, and walked the wrong way out three times.

The duel: one patch of dirt, two different weekends

The setup is the cleanest natural experiment the Grand Finals produced. Elite EomzoӜ + elite josh 19ǃ dropped Shaken Sanctuary in all 12 NAC games; Fredoxie0452 + M8 MariusCOW dropped the same spot in all 12 EU games. Same POI, same loot table, same 950/750/525m zone ladder — verified identical in every one of the 24 replays.

The outcomes never threatened to converge. Eomzo + Josh: 509 points, 14.3 average placement, 48 team eliminations, 11,754 damage, and a Game 7 Victory Royale worth 109 points on 11 elims. Fredoxie + Marius: 154 points, 26.3 average placement, 22 eliminations, 8,129 damage, no wins, best finish 15th — and they were eliminated mid-game in all 12 games. Their best outing of the whole weekend was Game 10: 15th place, 6 elims, 46 points, 1,885 damage.

The kill feed adds a sharper edge: of the 28 finishes it credits to Eomzo or Josh, 24 came away from the POI — Shaken was their spawn, not their hunting ground. Fredoxie + Marius's 15 feed finishes split 9 away, 6 at home. One duo treated the drop as a launchpad; the other treated it as a residence.

The Elite ledger: 509 points, 14.3 avg placement, one Victory Royale from the duel's winning side.

The contests: a 12-game truce vs a split decision

Neither duo had the POI to themselves — which kills the second excuse before it starts. In NAC, Twis Rаpidǃ + xset clix 1x. landed 92–161m off the Shaken drop cluster in all 12 games, and across those 12 games the two duos recorded zero kill-feed finishes on each other — a perfect truce, two teams silently agreeing the spawn fight was the only losing play. The entire cross-duo ledger for the weekend is one knock.

EU's contest actually fought. havok woxshter + kiiro1k- shared all 12 games and split the exchanges 1–1: in Game 8, havok woxshter finished Fredoxie0452 18m from the drop, and the duo was dead 2:14 after landing — a 46th, with Marius posting 0 damage. Two games later Marius returned the favor on havok woxshter in Game 10, EU's best game of the weekend. Worth noting: the contest duo drew the short straw all event — kiiro1k- + havok woxshter sat on the weekend's unluckiest-storm list at 796m of storm tax per game against a field median of 378m. A 1–1 contest doesn't explain a 509-to-154 scoreline. Something else does.

Was it the zones? No — we checked

The obvious objection to everything above: maybe the island simply pulled away from Fredoxie + Marius and toward Eomzo + Josh. So we classed all 24 zone draws by how far zone 3 — the 525m circle — sat from the Shaken drop cluster: ON-POI under 600m, NEAR 600–1,200m, FAR beyond 1,200m.

Q1 — Did the lobbies draw similar zones?

Close enough that neither side gets an excuse. NAC drew 3 ON-POI / 6 NEAR / 3 FAR; EU drew 2 / 9 / 1. EU's typical pull was farther — zone-3 median 1,011.5m from the drop against NAC's 779m — but NAC ate more worst-case pulls (three true FAR games of 1,228–1,299m to EU's one at 1,209m) while EU banked two on-POI gifts. The ~115m gap in means is inside noise at 12 games a side, and the punchline is directional: every single zone-3 pull in all 24 games came out of the north-to-west quadrant, because Shaken sits on the island's south-east edge. Both duos rehearsed the same exam.

Eomzo + Josh (NAC)Fredoxie + Marius (EU)ON-POIz3 < 600m32NEAR600–1,200m69FAR> 1,200m31
Zone-3 draws over 12 games each, classed by distance from the Shaken drop cluster. EU's median pull was farther — but NAC ate three true FAR zones to EU's one.

Q2 — What happened on matched looks?

We then paired games across the two lobbies with the same zone class and near-identical pull bearing — six matched looks, all zone-3 bearings within 13°. Raw score: NAC 3, EU 2, one dead tie. But split by pull depth and the pattern snaps into focus: on the 4 pulls of 800m or more, NAC averaged 10.0 placement to EU's 21.3 — winning three by 14, 15 and 16 spots — while on the 2 close pulls, EU won both. The leave-late style only breaks when the zone actually leaves — and it breaks whoever runs it.

Pair 1 · the title fight

NEAR pull due W — z3 815m (NAC G7) vs 742m (EU G6), bearings 4° apart

Eomzo + Josh

Left 4:31, exited SW toward the pull → won the game

Fredoxie + Marius

Sat until 12:19 (7:48 longer) → 15th

The only Victory Royale either duo posted all weekend came off a matched look that EU loot-lorded.

Pair 2 · same route, later

NEAR pull NW — z3 1,097m (NAC G9) vs 985m (EU G3), bearings 3° apart

Eomzo + Josh

Left 3:39, exit 2° off the bearing → 14th

Fredoxie + Marius

Left 6:31, exit 2° off the bearing → 29th

Both duos ran the exact zone bearing. The only difference was 2:52 of sitting — worth 15 spots.

Pair 3 · the control

NEAR pull due W — z3 812m (NAC G6) vs 808m (EU G10), bearings 9° apart

Eomzo + Josh

Sat until 12:50, exited W → 15th

Fredoxie + Marius

Sat until 12:17, exited W → 15th

When EU behaved identically to NAC, the result was identical — both finished exactly 15th. The gap is behavioral, not regional.

Pair 4 · the reverse case

NEAR pull N/NW — z3 716m (NAC G4) vs 690m (EU G4), bearings 11° apart

Eomzo + Josh

Sat until 12:39 → 32nd, their tournament worst

Fredoxie + Marius

Left 3:31 → 24th

This time NAC were the sitters — and took their worst game of the event. Late-sitting on a moving zone punishes whoever does it.

Pair 5 · the far-pull showcase

FAR/boundary pull NW — z3 1,228m (NAC G12) vs 1,200m (EU G12), bearings 13° apart

Eomzo + Josh

Left 3:48 straight up the bearing → 10th

Fredoxie + Marius

Left 5:21 → Fredoxie finished by the storm, Marius down 170m inside it → 26th

93 seconds later out the door, and the duel's only full-duo storm-wipe.

Pair 6 · the zone comes to you

ON-POI pull W — z3 385m (NAC G8) vs 543m (EU G2)

Eomzo + Josh

Sat until 12:11 → 28th

Fredoxie + Marius

Never left the POI at all → 23rd

When the zone lands on the drop, the sit costs nothing — EU edged both close-pull pairs.

Q3 — The far-pull test

On the three true FAR pulls NAC faced (zone 3 at 1,228–1,299m), Eomzo + Josh left at 3:48, 4:10 and 4:57 — a 69-second spread — and still placed 10th, 12th and 18th. EU's single FAR game never got graded: it's the Game 8 spawn-fight death, over 2:14 after landing. Widen the lens to every deep pull (zone 3 at 1,000m+) and the two routines finally sit side by side: NAC out at 4:08 on average, EU at 5:58 — 110 seconds later. The bill for those seconds: EU averaged 28.6 placement on deep pulls (excluding the spawn death) against 21.2 in their own close-zone games — roughly seven spots surrendered to the sit alone — and 15 spots worse than NAC's 13.5 on the same looks. Inside EU's own deep-pull games, the latest exits fared worst: out at 7:58 → 33rd, out at 9:50 → 32nd, out at 5:21 → both members dead in the storm for 26th.

Q4 — Would "just leave earlier" have saved EU?

Here's where the study earns its keep, because the obvious coaching note — leave the POI earlier — turns out to be wrong. In Fredoxie + Marius's own games, exits before 5:00 averaged 25.3 placement; exits after 5:00 averaged 24.4. Leaving early bought them 31 seconds of survival and zero placement — for them, later leaves actually correlate with better finishes (r = −0.48), because their sits happened to fall on close zones while two of their three early exits walked 84° and 108° off the zone bearing. The identical split for Eomzo + Josh: 9.9 before 5:00, 20.4 after. The same habit is worth ten spots to one duo and nothing to the other.

What separates them is the read, and it's measurable twice over. First, the trigger: NAC's leave time tracks zone-3 distance at r = −0.73 — they leave early only when the zone actually pulls — against EU's looser −0.54. Second, the direction: over the 60 seconds after leaving, NAC's route bearing misses the zone-3 pull by 19.9° on average and never more than 43° in eight rotations; EU misses by 39.3° with three outright wrong-way exits, topping out at 114° — walking south-west while the zone sat north. Eomzo + Josh don't leave early. They leave on time, in the right direction.

ON-POINEARFAR4:008:0012:0016:00600m1200mzone-3 pull distance from the Shaken drop →left the POI at ↑Eomzo + Josh · r = −0.73Fredoxie + Marius · r = −0.54
The read, drawn: how far the zone pulled vs when each duo left. Red slides cleanly down-right — leave early only when the zone actually moves. EU games 2 and 8 (never left the POI) are excluded, as in the study.

One more receipt, because it's brutal: across all 24 games, every storm death belongs to Fredoxie + Marius. The Game 12 duo wipe — Fredoxie finished by the storm itself with no killer on the feed, Marius down 170m inside the wall — plus Marius alone 36m inside it in Game 6. Eomzo and Josh's closest brush all weekend was 10.9m outside the line, mid-fight, in Game 1. Zero storm deaths in 12 games is not luck. It's the same read, priced in meters instead of placements.

The verdict: the habit, not the zones

A footnote that should end the "they were just sloppier" theory too: on their ten home-pad games, Fredoxie + Marius's landing spread was ±7.0m — tighter than Eomzo + Josh's ±11.1m. (Their all-12 figure of ±39.3m is two Day 2 games where they shifted the pad ~95–100m west.) The mechanics of dropping were never the problem. The zones weren't either: same quadrant, comparable draws, and a control pair where identical behavior produced identical 15ths. What's left is the thing the scatter plot draws in red — a duo that reads the circle and answers it, against a duo that answers the loot. Plan the exit, not the drop. Our free ELITE drops map exists for exactly that, and the wider region context lives in the NAC vs EU feature this page grew out of.

How we measured this

Every number here was parsed from Epic's public server-side tournament replays: movement traces, zone telemetry, the kill feed and a replay-derived damage model. Zone radii verified at 950/750/525m in all 24 games; all 24 placements match Epic's official duo cards; trace clocks were anchored against raw replay curves to within 0.1s. "At the POI" means within 400m of the observed drop cluster; a storm death requires dying 20m+ outside the safe circle (the Game 12 wipe was cross-checked against independent death locations to under 3m). The kill feed carries no clock times — every timing claim comes from movement traces, not the feed. Elimination totals use the replay's validated team counters (48 vs 22); feed finish credits (28 vs 15) undercount because duo elim credit often goes to the knocker. And one scoring note: Epic's own duo card shorts Fredoxie + Marius one elimination in EU Game 10 (card 150 points / 21 elims; replay recount 154 / 22) — we use the recount.

FAQ

Who won the Shaken Sanctuary duel at the FNCS Major 2 Grand Finals?

Elite EomzoӜ + elite josh 19ǃ (NAC), by a landslide: 509 series points, 14.3 average placement, 48 team eliminations, 11,754 damage and a Victory Royale in Game 7. Fredoxie0452 + M8 MariusCOW (EU), dropping the same spot in their lobby, finished on 154 points, 26.3 average placement, 22 eliminations, 8,129 damage, no wins and a best finish of 15th.

Did Eomzo and Josh just get easier zones than Fredoxie and Marius?

No. EU's typical zone-3 pull was farther (median 1,011.5m from the drop vs NAC's 779m), but NAC ate more worst-case pulls — 3 true FAR zones of 1,228–1,299m versus EU's 1 — and EU drew 2 on-POI gifts. The ~115m gap in mean pull distance is inside noise at 12 games per side, and every zone-3 pull in all 24 games came out of the same north-to-west quadrant. Same exam, different answers.

What happened when both duos got the same zone?

We matched 6 zone looks across the two lobbies, all with zone-3 bearings within 13° of each other. On the 4 pulls of 800m or more, Eomzo + Josh averaged 10.0 placement to Fredoxie + Marius's 21.3 — including a Victory Royale on a look EU sat on until 12:19 for 15th. On the 2 close pulls, EU actually edged both. And in the control pair, where both duos sat until ~12:20–12:50 and exited due west, both finished exactly 15th.

Does “just leave the POI earlier” actually win games in competitive Fortnite?

Not by itself. In Fredoxie + Marius's own games, leaving before 5:00 averaged 25.3 placement and leaving after 5:00 averaged 24.4 — early exits bought them ~31 seconds of survival and zero placement, because 2 of their 3 early exits walked 84° and 108° off the zone bearing. For Eomzo + Josh the identical split is 9.9 vs 20.4, because their leave time tracks zone-3 distance at r = −0.73 and their exit bearing misses the pull by only 19.9° on average. The habit is worthless without the read.

Were Eomzo and Josh contested at Shaken Sanctuary?

Every single game. Twis Rаpidǃ + xset clix 1x. shared the POI in all 12 NAC games and the two duos recorded zero kill-feed finishes on each other — a 12-game truce. In EU, havok woxshter + kiiro1k- contested Fredoxie + Marius in all 12 games and the spawn fights split 1–1, including the Game 8 fight that ended Fredoxie + Marius's game 2:14 after landing.

Where do these Shaken Sanctuary stats come from?

The ELITE data desk parsed Epic's public server-side tournament replays for all 24 Grand Finals games — movement traces, zone telemetry, kill feed and a replay-derived damage model. Zone radii verified at 950/750/525m in every game, all 24 game placements match Epic's official duo cards, and trace clocks were anchored against raw replay curves to within 0.1 seconds.
