The 2013 Evo champion still fighting — now on Elite's road to Paris

The short version

Reynald (Reynald Tacsuan) is a U.S. fighting-game veteran and the 2013 Evo King of Fighters XIII world champion — the first American to win that title. Thirteen years on, he competes for Elite in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves and has qualified for the Esports World Cup in Paris 2026.

The night he made Evo history

In 2013, the King of Fighters XIII bracket at Evo belonged to Japan and Korea. Reynald didn't read the script. He fought up from the losers bracket and beat Japan's Hee San Woo in the Grand Final to become the first U.S. player to win a KOF XIII world title — still one of the defining American runs in the game's history.

The part most players don't manage: longevity

Plenty of players win one big event and fade. Reynald kept going. Across KOF XIV and XV he stayed a threat — taking King of Fighters XV at DreamHack Dallas 2022 — and he's ranged into other games too, including a 4th-place finish in Samurai Shodown at Evo 2019. More than a decade after his title, he's still competing against the best in the world.

Fatal Fury, and the road back to the world stage

His current game is Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. He entered it strong — runner-up at Combo Breaker 2025 — and reached the sport's biggest stage at the Esports World Cup 2025. In 2026 he joined Elite, and out of Combo Breaker 2026 he earned his ticket to the Esports World Cup in Paris. He mains Kain and switched to Wolfgang Krauser for the qualifying run.

It's a genuinely rare arc: a veteran world champion, more than ten years deep, carrying an org back onto the biggest stage in the sport. That's the story Elite is taking to Paris.
